Executive Dean, Business

Key purpose:​ T​he Executive Dean of Business will lead a growing team of academics responsible for providing academic, business and research/scholarship leadership in the broad business field of study.

The role is also responsible for developing strong industry partnerships to enable the University to ensure that programs are created in collaboration with Industry Leaders ensuring students study and examine the most current issues affecting today's professionals.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the design and development of the Business Faculty’s programs in collaboration with industry leaders

  • Provide leadership and management to the Faculty to ensure achievement of key performance targets and profitable operations and sustainable growth

  • Work with the executive leadership group to recruit high quality academics, and incorporate leading edge learning platforms

  • Represent and promote the Faculty within the wider Laureate network and to external bodies, including relevant professions, and the wider community

  • Ensure membership and representation on key industry bodies is coordinated and strategic

  • Ensure that new degree programs are designed to reflect market research findings, are delivered using an optimal approach (campus-based/hybrid/blended/online), and are effectively differentiated from other similar degrees in the market

  • Work with academic and professional staff to foster a student-centred learning environment

  • Foster partnerships with the higher education community, accrediting agencies, government, business, community and relevant professional organisations

  • Support a cooperative team-based approach that strongly links academic and professional staff in managing existing degree programs, developing and introducing new programs, developing effective marketing strategies, implementing sales campaigns and, where appropriate, participating in marketing and sales activities

To be successful you will have:

  • Postgraduate academic qualifications in the broad business and education fields, preferably at the doctoral level

  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment in the higher education sector in Australia

  • Proven track record of successful business results/academic outcomes

  • A market-focused and analytical approach to business operations

  • A track record of personal excellence in leadership and management

  • Experience in undertaking research projects and supervising higher degree research students

  • Proven academic leadership and management skills and experience demonstrating a style which is analytical, innovative and flexible

  • Experience with online learning or a willingness to learn, manage and drive online learning

  • Demonstrate an ability to work with a diverse workforce, leading to appropriate problem resolution and decision-making.

  • Work with executive management, functional leaders, external resources, consultants, and all levels of the organisation to resolve problems

  • Determine the selection of short-term tactical and long-term strategic projects, project timeframes, project deliverables, and the general operation of these functions

  • Excellent planning and execution skills allied with well-developed analytical and problem solving skills

  • An in-depth understanding of the University’s strategic objectives, mission and values and ensuring they are reflected in activities in the business and education fields

  • A commitment to a team approach

  •  Self-confidence, ambition and energy

  • Effective relationship building skills, allied with the ability to listen
